type nerd.

i think it's a given that all us crazy graphic designers are in love with type. found these awesome notecards by afavorite via poppytalk this morning and had to check them out. the bonus? these are letterpressed. i love love love notecards, but i selfishly hoard them to myself unless i have more than one of a kind to spare. or a crazy fabulous person to give one to that i know won't toss it in the trash after enjoying it's splendor. but of course, i keep just about every card i receive... so feel free to send awesome cards my way :)

the love of type.

i love books. and i love great typography. i even love black and hot pink. i'm sure many of you remember sitting in typography class, working on your type poster (mine was garamond) and maybe thinking how silly it all was. studying each letterform so meticulously. and how in awe we were every time a professor could shout out what typeface we had used before we could even look in our notes. well, type is our life and we love it dearly now. and we embrace it.

this was posted on poppytalk yesterday, but i just thought i would share it here as well. graphic designer judith shalansky created this book fraktur mon amour as her homage to the gothic/blackletter typefaces. and printed it all in black and pink! so beautiful. how i would love to own one of these... and gently caress each pink-edged page of blackletter goodness...

mmmm.

found this great christopher bettig poster on poppytalk a few days ago and can't stop opening it up from my inspiration folder to take a peek at it. i guess i keep wishing for it to suddenly appear on my wall, but unfortunately it's sold out! the drawing is so sweet... and of course, i am digging the type at the bottom as well. i think it completes it... (sigh) and (as if that wasn't enough)- it's green. can you say made for me?

other loves.

there are few things i love more than hand-drawn type. and those are what else? hand-cut type and letterpress. i'm sure you all saw this lovely 'good luck' print on spartan home's sneak peek on d*s yesterday. well, it comes from bread and butter, who has a shop on etsy! these are a few of the great pieces they have in their shop right now... really love the simplicity of everything. ahh, now if i just had the funds...

more type.

you have to have dish towels, right? so why shouldn't they be pretty and have type all over them? i'm really starting to think that i might could make something similar with my gocco printer... i do have some black and white fabric ink... really loving the numbers/symbols one!

more hand lettering.

is it possible that i have become even more obsessed with hand drawn type? it is. all of you d*s readers probably already know this, but there's a great guest blogger, sarah miller, this week who is focusing on hand lettering, calligraphy and illustration... can't wait to see the rest!  image above from sarah gardner

stacking type.

i know most of you have probably already sighed over this image from design*sponge, but i just had to share it here as well. most graphic designers fall in love with type at some point in their schooling/career, and find ways to incorporate it in their world outside of the computer. this is a very lovely example from the studio of mike perry and anna wolf. (btw, they have a lovely home as well!) this image makes me dream of piling type up on our fireplace to create a 3d word jumble or devoting an entire wall to painting random letters from a printout of the entire helvetica family.

or just look at this gorgeous space from somethingshidinginhere. love love love the western type blown-up huge and painted in a lighter shade. i would love to do this in our entry way, with a huge "hello!". maybe when we find out that we'll be staying in lubbock a little longer, i can convince doug to let do some more extravagant things to our home.
