the wedding cake.

hello friends! i admit, i didn't think i would be back so soon... last week, i really just didn't feel like myself, but thanks to some antibiotics and other drugs, i'm feeling much better now.

i finally got a chance to pull some images off my camera... and realized i still hadn't shared any of the photos from one of the weddings we attended a few weekends back. i didn't take my camera to the ceremony/reception, but i did help decorate the day before and the day of. one of my best friends made their wedding cake (her amazing strawberry cake, nonetheless) and i was up there to help with the finishing touches.

helping decorate a cake is no small task, and i absolutely love the way it turned out. of course, the bride was happy with it too, which is really what matters, right?

unfortunately, the cake attendees (that's a term, right?) were cutting super small pieces... and i didn't think it was appropriate to go back for a second piece...

a wedding silhouette.

i wanted to share a little gift i made for a sweet girl this past weekend. she is getting married at the end of july, and i've been working on all things wedding for her since the engagement! did i mention she's the boss' daughter? the small studio where i've worked since i graduated has become like a second family to me. we share triumphs and tragedies. we work well together and make each other stronger.

i drew their silhouettes from a few of the engagement pictures taken by betsy lackey (amazing photographer, btw!) i incorporated them into the invitations, but knew i could do something special for them since i had all the right files.

julie loves all things vintage, and we incorporated some wonderful floral patterns into her printed pieces. i 'borrowed' some of the paper we'd been using for the background and cut their silhouettes out of a dark brown cardstock. the banner is another little piece that i've used throughout, and knew it would be the perfect 3-dimensional layer to add.

i popped everything into a cute thrifted frame (the double-mat was already in place, and the perfect colors!) needless to say, it got lots of attention at the shower and a heartfelt thanks from the bride and her family. it just goes to show that you can spend very little and make a big impression with just a few bucks and some time. i hope it will become a treasured part of their new life together, and i'm just happy to be a part of the celebration!

mmmm marian!

when marian told me that her invitation designer had found this pretty pink paper at michael's and used it for her wedding invitations, i was more than happy ( i heart michael's, what can i say?) to drive down to our local crafty place and pick some up. the stardream blue and metallic gold work beautifully with this designer paper for a book that's simple and elegant.

I am also creating a blank scrapbook with these same colors/papers that she can fill up with wedding memories! What a great idea... I know I have tons of wedding stuff sitting in a box somewhere that could be used to make a cool scrapbook...

red hot!

stripes are very hot right now! natalie will need this hot book at her reception on the yacht...

pretty in pink

i used to hate pink. really hate it. there i said it! but this book has made me found a new appreciation for the color. paired with some lovely greens, pink can be very beautiful, but not overly feminine. and while i won't be out buying everything pink i can get my hands on... i will certainly be more open to it now thanks to orla :)

my friend katie

so, i have this friend katie decker who's getting married july 26th. she's also a graphic designer (an amazing one btw), overly ambitious and she's my friend (can't you tell?). so as a wedding gift to the bride and groom, i took it upon myself to make her a special paperlust book! (there was another motive here though) i've been wanting to try a coptic binding method i've been researching and katie's book gave me the perfect excuse!

here's a close-up of the beautiful spine you get with this binding method.

katie was kind enough to screenprint some paper just for me! (she used the yellow fabric sans-ruffles for her wedding invites) the monogram is another one of her beautiful design creations and she had a stamp made specially for their wedding.

after spending...awhile...figuring the coptic stitch out, i decided i hadn't punished myself enough for one night and made katie a little bag to keep her book safe. the paper tendrils in the background are from my last minute decision to deckle the edges of the inside pages.

two new books!

so, in trying to keep true to posting more often...and also getting used to sharing my life with all you other wonderful internet-savvy folks, here are a few guestbooks i've just completed and stuck in the mail!

megan (book above) is getting married on july 5. i love the colors and paper she picked out and i think they will complement her invitations very nicely!

susan is getting married june 21st (she was a rush order!) and i couldn't be happier with the way her book turned out. i hope she loves it!
